Linda Ryan, Shop Manager at The Children’s Trust shop in Tadworth, says she loves her work and raising money to support children with brain injury: “Working in a charity shop is like working in a magical treasure trove. You never know what the next day may bring in from donations, and I love it. We’ve had some really fantastic items donated including two vintage Armani suits and some designer handbags. Our Tadworth shop is positioned at the heart of the local community so we have regular supporters who generously make donations and make purchases. The shop is a great meeting place for local residents who often pop in for a chat and they ask about the charity and the children we help. I’m a mother, and I feel closely associated with the cause and what we do as a charity. I feel inspired by the bravery of the children and the love and care they are given at The Children’s Trust, it drives you on to want to do more. My journey into charity retail started as a volunteer. Initially, I helped set up The Children’s Trust shop in Banstead and really enjoyed it. Eventually, I applied for the Assistant Manager post at Tadworth shop. A year later and I am the Manger, and have been for the last four months. I can honestly say it has been a wonderful progression and enjoy all I do. I think that have found my niche. I love fashion and trends, and working in a charity shop gives me the flexibility to show my creativity, taking ownership of the displays and day to day running of the store. I feel I have grown not only as a person but in my position throughout The Children’s Trust. I have learnt so much, and I now support other team members in their journey through the charity retail team, via training. Working as part of a great team and seeing our shop flourish is a real sense of achievement and it is an honour to be part of it. I look forward to the future and supporting such a wonderful cause. We have some great opportunities for those with and without experience and there is lots of scope for career development. We are a very close team, and very proud of the work we do.
